August 1-2, 2000 - They finish the shingles on the bedroom and continue to work on the siding. The window company called and said the windows were ready. But, when Tim and Ben went to pick them up, they discovered that they would not be ready until Friday. Jay ran the electrical in the living room after making several trips to 84 Lumber. August 3, 2000 6:30am - The crew arrives and starts working on the front porch. They finish the framing and then install the patio doors. 84 Lumber had to make three deliveries before they got the doors right. The city of Nitro brought a dump truck over and parked it for the night so that we could throw away all the debris, for no charge! Jay cut out the drywall in the kitchen to prepare it for the beam to go in. Then we cleaned out the back bedroom to get it ready for framing. August 4, 2000 7:00am - Tim and Ben arrive and Jay informs them that the windows are ready for pickup. They leave to pick them up, but return empty handed again. The delivery truck was not far behind, though. They delivered them for free due to the mess up. Tim and Ben immediately started framing for the window, but ran into a bit of trouble when the city building inspector did not agree with the window going through the top plate of the gable wall, (non load bearing). He made us get an engineer to look at it and write a letter and do a drawing explaining how the window would be reinforced. Jay called several people before he found someone that would come. So the guys continued with the siding until the engineer got here. They finally finished installing the windows, exactly the way they wanted to in the first place, except now they had the blessing of an engineer. Jay ripped out the drywall in the back bedroom so that he could frame the new hallway. I painted the front shudders after a second trip to Lowe's to get the right color of green. August 5, 2000 - Jay finished taking down all the drywall in the back bedroom and opening the door to the new bedroom. He also took out the kitchen door and put in the new locks on the french doors. I finished painting all the shutters.
